Would you like to gain perspective on bed sizes by seeing them next to things? This really helped me decide which size was right for me, and I think it’d help you, too.
To begin with, there’s no official legal standard for bed sizes. That’s right — each manufacturer decides how it wants to define its own products.
Most often, you’ll see the terms “full,” “queen,” and “king” used to market different bed sizes. But what’s the actual size for each of them?
Table to Illustrate the Differences
Here’s a table that helpfully illustrates the differences between Full, Queen, and King size beds:
Bed Type | Width (inches) | Length (inches) | Width (cm) | Length (cm) | Description |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Full | 54 | 75 | 137 | 190 | Good for one person; cozy for two |
Queen | 60 | 80 | 152 | 203 | Spacious for one, comfortable for two |
King | 76 | 80 | 193 | 203 | Very spacious, perfect for couples who want extra space |
A Full-Size Bed
A full-size bed is usually 54 inches wide and 75 inches long (or 137 by 190 centimeters).
This size is good for people who are smaller or those who don’t want a lot of extra space in the bed. It can also be used by two people who are comfortable sharing a smaller bed with each other.
A Queen-Size Bed
A queen-size bed is 60 inches wide by 80 inches long (or 152 by 203 centimeters) — 6 inches wider and 5 inches longer than a full-size. This size is popular because it’s big enough for most people to sleep comfortably alone (one side of the bed will be too big for one person). It’s also wide enough to fit two people, side-by-side.
A King-Size Bed
A king-size bed is 76 inches wide and 80 inches long (or 193 and 203 centimeters ) — 16 inches wider than a queen!
It is too big for one person, but it’s perfect for couples who want a lot of extra space in their bed or people who are large in size.
Of course, how big of a bed you need is very personal and subjective, so let’s see bed sizes using visuals.
