If you’re new to RVing and are considering a Cherokee Grey Wolf travel trailer, it pays to learn more about the brand and what benefits their RVs bring to the camping community.

Finding the right recreational vehicle for your needs is more than just how big or fancy the interior appears. The camper must be cost-efficient, comfortable, functional, and hold up under continual travel stress.

To help, I detail the latest Cherokee Grey Wolf travel trailer models in this guide and highlight the pros and cons of the brand and floor plans. I also include honest feedback from owners so you can learn which amenities or floor plans work and which you should skip!

Cherokee Grey Wolf Travel Trailer History

Forest River, Inc. manufactures the Cherokee Grey Wolf travel trailer line. The company began in 1996, with CEO Peter Liegl focusing on making recreational vehicles that better met the needs of camping enthusiasts.

The brand introduced the Cherokee Grey Wolf line around 2003, as I can find earlier models of Cherokee trailers, but no information specific to the Grey Wolf line before this year.

Forest River quickly became of the most well-known RV manufacturers in the US, selling every type of recreational vehicle, from Class A motorcoaches to toy haulers to pop-up campers.

Reliable Build and Modern Features

Forest River stands out from its competition for creating dependable, affordable, and functional camping trailers. The company listens to customers and upgrades features and designs to meet the demands of modern campers.

Comfortable Interiors

The interiors of the Grey Wolf models utilize a design perfect for the camping lifestyle. The furniture, walls, and flooring materials are durable, reducing general wear and tear damage.

I like the simplicity of the design, which offers all the practical features and ease of maneuverability that makes RV living comfortable.

Rigorous Quality-Control

Each Cherokee Gray Wolf is subject to extensive testing to ensure plumbing, heating, cooling, wiring, lights, propane, weatherproofing, and other components are working correctly.

After asking my RVing friends with Grey Wolf travel trailers about quality issues, all of them are happy with the condition of their camper at delivery and after seasons of use.

However, some did mention small things that came loose or broke during their travels (common for all RV brands) but said getting the item fixed under warranty or out of pocket was simple.

Best Cherokee Grey Wolf Travel Trailer

Of all the Grey Wolf travel trailer models, I think the 26DBH model is best for a single person, a couple, or a large family. This unit is 31′ 9″ long, sleeps up to nine, and has a UVW of 5,795.

Why it works:

Let’s start with the dual entry doors that allow you to walk directly into the bathroom from the RV exterior, reducing foot traffic through the camper.

The double-bed bunks in the rear are perfect for kids or guests, and ideal for storing long or bulky camping equipment, or you can remove them to gain an office or craft space.

The large slideout opens up the living area, the kitchen has a huge pantry, and the bedroom has access on both sides and doors for privacy. There are also four USB charging stations throughout the unit.

Outside, this model shines with two large storage compartments, an outdoor kitchen, a TV mount, a rear storage rack, an LP quick-connect, and a 15-foot awning.

Best Cherokee Grey Wolf Toy Hauler

Of the Grey Wolf toy hauler models, I really like the flexible usage the 27RR model provides. This unit is 34′ 2″ long, sleeps up to nine, and has a UVW of 6,571.

Why it works:

I’m always a big fan of trailer-wide bathrooms, which provide the most space, and this model does it better with access from the main living space and the rear garage.

The 11-foot garage is perfect for kayaks or other toys and converts to a private room with two twin bunks that convert to a dinette. In addition, the garage has a separate entry door, and the rear ramp can become a lifted patio, creating even more usable space.

The outside amenities include a full kitchen, a shower, speakers, and a TV mount. Inside, you’ll find the large bathroom, a chef’s kitchen with a farm sink, a U-shaped dinette inside the slideout, and a cozy queen-size murphy bed tucked sideways up front that folds to become a couch.

A toy hauler such as this can make more sense for people looking for lots of flexibility in how they camp and what supplies and toys they want to bring.

Best Cherokee Grey Wolf Fish House

Do you want a fish house you can also take camping in warm weather? Then you’ll want to check out the Cherokee Grey Wolf 17MP model that is 25′ 10″ long, with a UVW of 4,471, making it 1/2 ton towable. The unit sleeps up to five.

Forest River Cherokee Grey Wolf RVs: Discover Why Full-Time RVers Love It

Why it works:

First off, the Grey Wolf 17MP is an all-weather RV with a fully-insulated sub-floor, walls, and roof for the ultimate winter protection from the cold, but it performs just as well to keep the unit cooler in the summer.

The layout in this model is ideal. It comes with a standard RV toilet and shower in the bathroom and a large fridge, microwave, stove top, sink, and oven in the kitchen space.

I like the two long storage cabinets for fishing rods (or other camping supplies). Four of the six fishing portholes have lights, and all have tight-sealing covers.

The rear dinette can convert to a double bed, and above it is a permanent bunk for sleeping or extra storage. During the day, the tabletop is large enough for meals or games.

On the downside, the fish house interior feels less spacious and homey than other travel trailer models because it lacks slideouts and has a utilitarian design. However, if you want an excellent ice-fishing or hunting RV that works fine for general camping, this unit will get the job done.

Ample Floor Plans

The Grey Wolf travel trailers and toy haulers offer a nice variety of floor plans and sleeping capacity to accommodate all types of camping needs. A couple can find a roomy unit for full-time RVing, or a large family can find the perfect model with a bunkhouse to enjoy weekend getaways.

Some of the best reviews come from the Grey Wolf toy haulers, where customers rave about the ease of setup with the power levelers and hinged rear doors. My favorite is after taking out the camping toys, the ramp door converts into a private party patio, which is a huge bonus.

Thoughtful Design

I am impressed with how the designers lay out the furniture and appliances inside the Cherokee Grey Wolf models.

No matter how tiny or large the unit is, the layout maximizes the function and efficiency of each space. For the camping guest, this means no awkward maneuvering is required to cook, shower, or get ready for bed.

Storage is another plus inside the Grey Wolf models, with under-bed compartments, shelving, and cabinets to easily pack away all your camping supplies.

However, the feature I like the best is the lack of overhead cabinets in most of the living areas, which makes the space feel larger and prevents the annoyance of hitting your head. I wish more RV brands would follow suit.

Residential-Style Amenities

Grey Wolf travel trailers include a full-size refrigerator and kitchen sink. I’ll be the first to admit that having the extra space for food storage and washing dishes makes camping trips way more convenient.

The microwave, stovetop, oven, and cabinets complete the kitchen layout, so you have all the typical amenities you have at home to make food prep and cooking a breeze. The cover for the sink is also a nice touch that increases counter space.

The units also include a queen-size mattress in the main bedroom, and many of the models have washer and dryer hookups ready to go if you want to skip the campground or local laundromat.

Pre-wired Entertainment Connections

All Cherokee Grey Wolf units have cable, phone, and satellite wiring in place, so you don’t have to drag cords through a window or drill holes in your flooring or walls to connect to your TV or other components.

The trailer models with entertainment centers have a DVD player, Dolby Digital 5.1 Sound System, built-in speakers, a subwoofer, and a TV tuner, to make setting up your lounge area much faster. There is also an outdoor TV mount under the awning for watching a game or a movie, rain or shine.

Cherokee Grey Wolf Cons

Parking and Storage Issues

Most Cherokee Grey Wolf travel trailers are too large to park inside a residential garage or outside in the driveway or yard.

The size means you’ll need to consider where you plan to park your camper when not in use and whether or not extra storage fees will impact your budget.

Leaky Plumbing Fittings

There are consistent complaints about leaky fittings, especially at the kitchen sink. Since leaky plumbing lines are a concern, check them often or replace the fittings with a higher-quality version.

Short Warranty

After researching Cherokee Grey Wolf complaints, I noticed some unhappy customers are dealing with multiple problems in their 2022 RV purchases. While most seem to have gotten their issues fixed through the warranty, many show concern over how short it is (one year) and what they may have to repair out of their pocket after that time.

In Summary

Cherokee Wolf Pup travel trailers

I recommend you purchase a Cherokee Grey Wolf.

It’s a terrific no-nonsense camping trailer with an affordable price tag. In addition, the Cherokee Grey Wolf tows smoothly, and the rear camera makes backing in at campsites much easier.

Overall, I’m impressed with the outstanding floor plans ideal for family camping trips the Grey Wolf line provides. With regular maintenance, the camper should last for years, making it a great value!
